Am I getting the dividend if I buy today?
CMO buy today for div. Ex-d Monday
I recently played SJT by buying a few days ahead of the record date.As the record date approached a lot of people bought in raising the price enough for me to sell and make a decent return quickly.
Contrary to the normal pattern it didnt go down Xdiv and climbed another couple dollars which I missed out on. Just goes to show things dont always play out as logic would dictate.
Let's try to be polite on this board although your point is well taken. The dividend for this quarter can no longer be claimed because the stock is trading x-dividend today (without the dividend). As the other person rightly said, you would have had to have bought it yesterday to be entitled to the dividend. The dividend in this case was $.68/share and when a stock is trading ex-dividend, you will usually see the stock go down that much to account for the dividend. Indeed, it did open lower, but has since regained some of what it lost, which makes all of us still holding it very happy! In approximately 3 months, NLY will announce how much the next dividend will be and the date. Obviously, if it is less than $.68 people will not be happy and some will sell. If it is more, the stock will probably go up or might go up anyhow because some people will buy it for the dividend.
I am astonished that people who put money into buying stocks do not understand the most elementary definitions and/or lack the language skills to know what EX means.
I think its unduly complicated by EX,Record and payment dates. The declared date should be the date for all.
NO it was yesterday to buy and get div
No. Gone X.
