By now we all know that interest rates will stay low, that all sources say economy is slowing down, oil and stock prices have been down for the last few days, and some say correction is only halfway through. Do we really believe that NLY stock price is immune from this downturn? For those who have held NLY for years, through market ups and downs, would you care to shed some light? txs.
Recent history shows that if they maintain earnings and thus the dividend, they will out perform the market on the way down. That is not to say the stock price is immune to some downward pressure. On a daily basis it is not unusual for NLY to counter perform the market. My theory is that when sentiment on stock values turns pessimistic, then that dividend starts looking better. Might as well get some divis while tour portfolio declines.
