Duke Energy struck a long-term deal with Boston, Mass-based Ambient Corp for the next phase of its smart grid deployment. Ambient will provide communication technologies in support of the utility's smart grid projects.

If Duke's smart grid plans throughout its service territories are realized, Ambient sees the potential for up to 300,000 nodes under the pact between the firms.

“We already have purchase orders for about 13,500 nodes,” Joyce reported.

      • BOSTON, April 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ambient Corporation (OTCBB:ABTG.ob - News), a pioneer in the development of smart grid communications infrastructure, announced today that based on a preliminary review of its financial results, the Company expects revenues for the first quarter to be approximately $12 million compared to approximately $1.7 million in the first quarter of 2010, representing an increase of 613%. "The continued increase in both revenue and profits through the sale of the Ambient Smart Grid communications platform validates our view that we are entering an inflection point in the real-world deployments of smart grid technologies," said John J. Joyce, President and CEO of Ambient. "The modernization of our nation's grid infrastructure has long been touted as a necessity that will bring considerable benefits to utilities, customers and the environment as a whole. We are now seeing those promises become a reality, with the increased interest in scalable standards-based, two-way communication networks for the grid. We expect the trend to continue, and even accelerate, as operational deployments continue to demonstrate value."

To support its growth, Ambient continues to hire new staff, and presently has more than 65 full-time employees. Hiring continues as Ambient bolsters its engineering and services departments. Ambient will also continue to address the backlog of orders it has received.

The Ambient Smart Grid® communications platform provides utilities with a standards-based, two-way communications infrastructure from which to launch current and new smart grid applications. Ambient's smart grid nodes provide a universal architecture that empowers utilities to choose the right applications for different segments of their customer base, while the AmbientNMS acts as an intelligent information dashboard for network monitoring. Using the platform, utilities gain a level of visibility into their network operations previously unavailable, including enhanced basic applications such as outage tracking and energy loss detection.

    • These are old, old, old, old press releases. Things change fast. I wonder how many vendors (total) will be used to supply nodes.

    • 10% plus already installed...rollout picking up speed

    • lol... basher loons think a rollout of 5000 cutting edge nodes a month...so far...is not a demanding and growing enterprise requiring more employees

      • Unlike you, I am in this for the money. Every piece of good news, including this (if we were to be the sole vendor) has brought the PPS down or barely budged it. Why?

        1. Because another company owns 86 percent of ABTG so whatever ABTG does on their own is moot. They could be sold out tomorrow.

        2. There are warrants outstanding for future stock purchase for .035 cents. Thats right, three and one half cents.

        3. There are 1.6 Billion shares out with more to be issued. We are talking hundreds of millions (a year) of gross sales to budge this at all.

        4. One customer, even though it's a good customer, is not a good thing for any business. All the eggs are in one basket.

The list goes on and on, but if you do due diligence on any of these items you will see where we are headed. I wish it were different but it's not.

You are always predicting great unbelievable

things for Ambient with 1,000's of posts and

end up with egg on your face and (0) credibility.

You would think you would learn.
