    TIPs and taxes

    Thanks for the info. This is from the recent auction and I have no idea how to understand it. Is this projecting a future inflation index?

    • The government uses recent history to adjust the value of TIPS but there is a built in lag. The government only collects inflation data monthly. We just now found out how consumer prices changed from November to December.

      I-Bond lag is even worse. Rates are only set every 6 months.

      This lag is yet another reason TIPS would not protect us from serious hyperinflation.
