Unless we make progress with Yahoo towards an agreement by this weekend, we will reconsider our alternatives," he said. "These alternatives clearly include taking an offer to Yahoo shareholders or to withdraw our proposal and focus on other opportunities."
MSFT did not say "Unless Yahoo accept our current offer on the table by this weekend, we will reconsider our alternatives"
Balmer wants to negotiate.....negotiating means that the deal with be different from the offer when both parties meet in the middle......
Mr. Ballmer you are dealing with Jerry Yang. You are not gonna get him bluff I am telling you now. You can do that to others but not Jerry Yang. You will see what I am talking about. With 100% support from BOD, you have to think twice Mr. Ballmer, Jerry will never, never give up to what he believes in!! I am telling you that again right now!! Deal with him in amicable manner he will listen to you.
Cramer has been relatively silent re YHOO, spinning a yarn that Balmer doesn't bluff - he is purportedly friends with Balmer from college. His silence speaks volumes - he knows Ballmer wants to do the deal, and he tried discretely to add pressure without getting snagged with insider info.
obviously...way to catch up with everyone else. YHOO wants more than 35/share...MSFT won't go over 35/share. My guess is that it ends up at or near 35/share...with slightly more MSFT stock being used in the transaction - another "alternative" is to offer all cash at 33 or so per share. "alternatives" does not necessarily mean "transactional" or "process" alternatives...it also means "consideration" alternatives. The MSFT "31/share" offer it no longer a "31/share" offer...especially after their turb quarter. Watch the deal price go up with a locked in valuation or higher cash component. Regardless, load up on YHOO in the low 27s...if it gets lower, it is a gift from God
nice read "between the lines"!
who will kick yang in the as* to move yhoo to negotiating table? I cannot - small timer. Need a major shareholder or two to call the shots (that's my only hope for my current holding)
Yeah. Yang should be smart enough to know that a few dollars north ($35-$36 would be a blessing) is what he can ask for; Ballmer should be smart enough to realize that no-raise no-deal. There should be some compromise here. If either is stubborn, they both die. GOOG will eat them piece by piece, alive!
