This is gut wretching waiting for earnings tonight

You wonder why they just didn't report their earnings before the market opens. Think there is any chance we just might get a big pop above $15 after the close? YHOO still has the best finance portal and message boards on earth. Got to be worth something, right?

    • You are on crack. Even with stellar earnings (which there will not be), share price would only be expected to move $1-2.
I expect earnings to be off like everyone else except GOOG. Why because YHOO is an outdated portal kind of like what AOL was in the late 90's. The only possible upside to YHOO would be a deal with MSFT, and that is still a big question. The only thing Yhoo offers at this point is lots of eyeballs. But if you effectively monetize that, what good is it?

    • Earnings will be mainly a non-event IMO. The stock has already sold off significantly from the run up above $13 and they should at least meet the dismal expectations. That to me pretty much means the stock will move a couple % in either direction. There have been reports that ad sales aren't as bad as everyone is predicting but you still have GOOG kicking their butt. That pretty much means they will do slightly worse YOY but still have a nice profit and cash position.

The big question mark is does new mgmt want to immediately try and create shareholder value or does a company that has plenty of cash, no debt, and decent profit simply want to go it alone and take on the challenge of increasing profits on their own. Bartz is 60 so she's not going to be around for more then a few years and Ichan is likely itching to get out of this company he knows little about and simply wanted to make a quick buck from $26-$31 last year.

I think there will be pressure to do a deal soon. It's just a question of when.

    • If they announce in the morning then you don't sleep at night! LOL. Nasdaq stocks almost always announce after hours.
