"Alibaba 20% stake: Alibaba Group’s worth $65 billion in an IPO. Tencent (TCEHY), the biggest Chinese Internet stock, is worth $63 billion today on $6.3 billion in revenues and $1.88 billion in earnings in the last 12 months. There’s a chance that Alibaba did similar numbers in 2012 (the last numbers for them we have are from Q2). But it seems like their Tmall unit did huge numbers in Q4 (including $3 billion – with a B – in one day in November). If Alibaba is worth $65 billion (in 6 months, when there will be 2 more quarters of growth behind it), Yahoo’s stake will be worth $13 billion. After taxes and fees (and let’s assume they sell the whole stake, even though they only have to sell half), they’ll get back $8.1 billion in cash."

"After the news of Alibaba IPO plan"??
Bloomberg reported they had hired 2 investment banking firms. Alibaba said they had hired no none. They didn't say "no comment". They said they had hired no one. If they in fact had hired someone this would be a false and mis-leading statement. It would have been better if they had responded with "no comment".
So other than that....where is this "IPO plan" you refer to. Seems like rumor and speculation to me...which I guess is fine...but to jump to the conclusion based on a Bloomberg rumor (that was denied, not ignored, by Alibaba,) seems a bit like jumping the gun.
And I fail to see why Jack Ma stepping aside is somehow proof of an impending IPO. If Mark Zuckerberg had done the same thing people would have been nervous. Show me another startup where the founder steps aside and then it is followed by an IPO announcement. I think some on this board are so long they are spinniing any news into being bullish.
Go watch the Bloomberg interview with Marissa Mayer. In particular, start at the 16:00 minute mark when she is asked about competing companies that have mobile, mobile OS, browsers and social. And at 16:49 the question and reference of the "Four Horsemen" clearly makes her nervous as she starts rotating her foot. Once they move on to another question the foot stops. Something about that topic clearly made her uncomfortable.
Just a thought
