If you go to the web site mit world there is a good lecture by a Dr. Steven Chu. He mentions a lot of the more important old and new areas of science, and what is needed for the future. Talks about energy, biotech, computers, information transfer, environment. Not once (if i remember correctly) does he mention space travel. I must say president Obama made a good choice in Dr. Chu. So if you think there is going to be a space race to mars, you would be a sadly mistaken Don Quiote. Ironically more like a race to build the perfect windmill. lol.
