I got into ATHN at 33 and have been impressed with the growth. I also have a stake in CERN and have for some time.
It seems to me that CERN and I suspect others will slowly follow ATHN's network/services model or at least try given the obvious benefits and adoption barrier issues. In fact, on their last con call CERN indicated that they will be focusing on the ambulatory market. I also see many HIT outfits - MDRX especially, highlighting their hosted solutions. I am curious as to weather they will offer the same value prop as ATHN - % of collections, saas model vs. just hosting the software app. I know the biz models are completely different which is why I have always been short on MDRX given their software model, implementation issues and volatility of late.
Will be interesting to see what Mr. Bush and company do next. I like their play with PSSI and ECLP they seem to have the whole market covered. I am in the industry and work at an academic center that uses CERN but talking to colleagues and execs the play really is ambulatory and in my opinion EMRs are a nice opp for all but ATHN seems to have focused heavily and is a clear leader in the financial services segment, which if you talk to any doc or their staff, is where the pain lives.
