I have this feeling in my bones that this will happen very soon. Not only by the massive call options volume in Yahoo but by the recurring interjections by the media.
Someone knows something to take up these massive Call options in Yahoo not just for this month..but for the next year.
Mr. Softee will be Number 1 on the Web if these acquistions come to fruition. I just hope it is not Google, as some suggest looking at Yahoo, to spoil our party.
Just think the World will be our....EU, Asia, Africa, India....especially since Yahoo owns 40% of Alibaba...the gateway to the Far East.
It's a rumor that came up more than a year ago and keeps popping up every few months. MSFT VP Johnson made some recent comments about their goal to be 30+% marketshare, which is being used to wind up the rumors once again since many see that only being possible if they acquire YHOO.
Could someone please tell me how this all started about
Microsoft buying yahoo....is this in print somewhere.
or did someone decide one day to put this statement on the
Thank you for the replies
No problem. It would be nice to think that one buy would solve MSFT's weakness in this area. It's likely much more complicated that that. Additionally, as MSFT is slowly discovering but should have understood since they'll built their business around it, to displace an incumbent you have to be MUCH better - not slightly worse or equal. MSFT needs to look not just at where the market is now (heavily search-orientated) but where's it's going, if they hope to improve their overall position. The AQNT purchase is likely a first visible recognition of that, and the CEO from there understands this market a lot better imo than Ballmer and or Schmidt. Let's hope he doesn't fuk off like so many outsiders at MSFT before him.
If the merger occurs, MSFT will be not only biggest desktop software company in the world but also will be the biggest internet company in the world. MSFT will have power in all areas they were dreaming about. I hope it happends and it happens soon, this might kill the GOOG hype so quickly.
I am sure that will play REAL well in the EU.
I just don't see it happening UNLESS the EU allows Google to proceed with the DoubleClick acquisition, then MSFT and YHOO might have a leg to stand on when presenting their case.
Frankly, I'd like to see MSFT stay focused on their core businesses and get those right first. YHOO has a lot of its own issues, and I am not sure MSFT is the company to resolve them.
And by the way, why is it everytime MSFT has been beaten down a bit (from about $37.50 to $34) and YHOO has been beten up in parallel (from $34 to $25), we suddenly get the return of the MSFT acquiring YHOO rumors.. what a mess it caused during the Summer for both stocks... sounds like it could happen again.
