    Global Warming: inter-generational debate

CO2 output must cease altogether, studies warn
Research points to years of warming even with ambitious emission cuts

Their findings, published in separate journals over the past few weeks, suggest that both industrialized and developing nations must wean themselves off fossil fuels by as early as mid-century in order to prevent warming that could change precipitation patterns and dry up sources of water worldwide.

Steve Gardiner, a philosophy professor at the University of Washington who studies climate change, said the studies highlight that the argument over global warming "is a classic inter-generational debate, where the short-term benefits of emitting carbon accrue mainly to us and where the dangers of them are largely put off until future generations."

    • <GW won't become an issue until we are in the middle of a disaster ...>

      Gosh, pure Randi.

Why is it the vast majority of GW "sky is falling" proponents either people unqualified to speak (like Lard Baldy) or people with a personal agenda in GW being man made.

How long can they ignore the direct correlation this year to a reduction in sun spots and the one year wipe out of 100 years of "global warming?"

      >>According to the RWNJ the majority are either deceiving the public or are incompetent. I find this unlikely<<

      do ya' think?

I really don't expect any progress to be made in regard to reducing greenhouse gases anyway. I don't think leading climatologist realistically expect any progress either.

They report their findings. The politicians ignore their findings. The economy is more important.

GW won't become an issue until we are in the middle of a disaster and the next generation is cussing us out.

      C'est la vie

    • <According to the RWNJ the majority are either deceiving the public or are incompetent. I find this unlikely.>

      They are neither, per se.

They are invested in a particular outcome. There are scientific data points to support that outcome.

Good science is NEVER invested in a particular outcome.

WRT "a majority" I doubt that if you limit it to those actually qualified to address the issue you end up with much of a majority if a majority at all.

One of the quotes I saw (I think it was Baldy) used yesterday came from a "scientist" philosopher who had "studied global warming."

I have a degree in science and I have "studied" global warming.

If you dig into the proponents bios it's amazing how many are fringe science, different field science and certainly not experts in climatology.

    • I was speaking only of real scientist. Those that should be able to comment.

According to the RWNJ the majority are either deceiving the public or are incompetent. I find this unlikely.

Now you might understand that a single year correlation of sunspot and earth climate doesn't prove much. There is just as much probability of proving the reverse next year.

I repeat for you my opinion is that it is unlikely that the majority of scientist are ( ignorant or deceitful)

It takes a simple minded individual to think his observations of the climate, or limited press coverage qualifies him to make an opinion.

    • <Those that are politically motivated and are expressing opinions they really don't believe.>

It's hard to say if Al Gore doesn't really believe what he says (if he does why does he lie so much?) or if he is just raking in the money or he believes it but somehow doesn't think his jet's contrail counts.

I think the rest of the world has a lot of political motivation to hobble the U.S. with any nonsense they can.

I know ther are billions and billions of research dollars that go away if global warming is not man made.

You may counter there are industry dollars to support opposing views.

So in your own words, those whose livelihood depends on global warming, which is a high percentage of the proponents "The[y] are incompetent to make the judgment despite being internationally recognized in the field."

Thanks for that, we agree on that point.

This year we noticed a direct and immediate correlation between decreased sun spot activity and temperature. Whereas I noted it is not a scientific sampling it is another data point to counter the agenda driven LWNJs.

As to being right, the ones who say there is no conclusive evidence are right.

    • <heh...heh...OMFG! That's Rush Limbaugh speaking.>

OMFG, I've told you several times I can't stand Rush. Is that your only counter when you are utterly defeated on the facts?

In this case if Rush said that, he's right. I damned sure didn't get it from him.

Your speeches here sound exactly like Randi Rhodes. Are you her sock puppet? Did George Bush set the explosives in the World Trade Center himself or did he have it done?

heh...heh...OMFG! That's Rush Limbaugh speaking. Have you seen any of those black UN helicopters flying over your single wide lately?

    • You didn't answer his challenge.
It is CO2 levels that are the cause of the H2O levels.
Thus indirectly CO2 is our primary concern.

      What now ??
