Is Conficker virus an April Fool's Joke?

Think about it, of all day's April Fools? Why does the media still hype computer viruses? It seems like every year there is some new virus that comes and goes.

    • I don't think it's a joke. The news coverage isn't hype, malware is a serious problem, and not getting any better.

Of course it was hype you fucking idiot. The evidence clearly shows it to be exactly that. If you'd ever get your head out of your ABM ass you'd actually see the real world; the vast majority of the computing public cares nothing about linux because they know nothing about it...and that's A-OK with me (and you obviously). You can't have it both ways...either jump on the reality bandwagon and start lobbying to get linux into the mainstream under one brand and sell out to IBM/Oracle/Whomever for their deep pockets (and trash your ideas of "free") or shut the fuck up and keep spouting off how "cool" linux is at your pathetic little user group meetings.

I'd be happy if you just shut the fuck up, actually.

      • It turned out that it was pretty much an April fool's joke.

The media hype was outrageous. Conficker variants have been around since last year. The fuss yesterday was about Conficker.C updating.

        Look at what happened...nothing!

The 'doomsday' could strike at any time, it is more likely to come from zero day exploits in my opinion though.
