...with a teary-eyed Pelosi at the podium begging for mercy for them?
When Obama took office on the mantle of Hope and Change, one of the first moves he and Congressional Democrats made was to shut down the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program to new students. The program gave poor D.C. kids the opportunity to go to the private schools including the one where Obama's kids go, and their academic lives were proved time and again to be turned around.
Despite a track record of incredible success in moving children in low-income families from failing public schools and giving them a chance at academic success and a brighter future, Democrats cut funding to the DCOSP and consigned the children of D.C. back to the putrid public-school monopoly.
BUT WAIT - the Republican-authored budget passed by House, and that the Senate will vote on today, will RESTORE THE PROGRAM. Senator Lieberman is sponsoring the same provision in the Senate.
Let's watch today as the Senate Democrats happily vote down the Republican bill that is attempting to slash a paltry 1.6% from this year's remaining budget, and again vote down this thorn in the side of their union buddies that run the glorious D.C. public school leviathan.
