The first MLK was slipped in with the promise that a "holiday" would be a one time event, then there would be recognition only after that.Okay the GDP of the U.S. is ~1.5T and spread fairly evenly so each day of vacation, were everyone to take it (why should government employees be privileged?), would cost about $40B.Now I understand the symbolism and only think if we want to have a MLK holiday, we cut another somewhere with (imo) Columbus Day being the obvious choice.Another holiday continued on a broken promise, only serves to show the continuing expansion of entitlement government...$40B a year, really would it be worth it if everyone participated?
They already did cut another holiday. February used to have 2 holidays,Lincolns birthday and George Washingtons. Now they combined them into one holiday called Presidents day, so both Abe and George got bumped for MLK.
