While the vast majority of rich give much to charity, they treat each business venture as business.
If you've never had significant discretionary money it's tough to grasp the fact that (for example) the evil Koch Brothers may give $5Million to charity but will not spend $100K of that on a business venture or improvement without a business return.
It's two different pots.
Higher taxes pull from both pots. They kill marginal business ventures and they lower charity contributions.
Beyond perhaps the military the government has never done anything more efficiently than private individuals. Even when the government tries to emulate a successful charity venture, they typically have employees motivated by a job rather than a cause.
Obama's media in action:

(AP) – 57 minutes ago
NEW YORK (AP) — Kardashian family matriarch Kris Jenner talked about her breast augmentation on NBC's "Today" show at the same time other news outlets were airing the solemn commemoration of the first plane striking New York's World Trade Center 11 years ago.
President Obama's Campaign Trashes '2016: Obama's America'

2016: Obama's America Poster - H 2012
The film, which its marketers dubbed, “the movie the White House doesn’t want you to see,” was on 2017 screens this weekend and is expected to be on the same number next weekend.
For good measure, the website entry also bashes some of Obama’s harshest critics: Tea Partiers.
Time to go see the movie.
I have not seen the Koch brothers tax return so I will take your word that they gave 5M to some charity
then turned around and took a 5M tax deduction on it, so I and everybody else on this board ended up paying for it in higher taxes than need be.
Thank you Koch bothers.
Did you see Mitt on Meet the Press? He said he would increase the tax on wealthier Americans $250k and up. Why is Mitt trying to start a class war I thought that was Pres Obama's job?
These guys bash the Koch family. WSJ article by Charles Koch from Sept 9th.
All he asks from government is nothing. No special favors, no special treatment for any business.
The liberals like the bailouts of GM, the pork like Solyndra. A business man that wants to compete in a free and fair market is their enemy? What a pack of idiots.
you are lying the Koch's have made many contributions to politicians whose subsequent administrative shifts have benefited Koch ventures to the tunes of 100's of millions of dolalrs in tax breaks, dropped suits, etc
Will this "explanation" reverse the trend in the responses to the "bestest" pollster's continuing shift toward the re-election of President Barack Hussein Obama, a shift that has extended accross several days now and eliminated five percentage points from the probability that former half-term failed Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (formerly a wholly owned subsidiary of Bain Capital, Inc. and affiliates) will be anything but an unemployed grifter?
Are you certain as to the general inefficiency of our self-governance for any purpose other than "the military" (not known for its current high return on investment, by the way)?
Perhaps more importantly, if the Federal government is such a problem for the Galtian types why was David Koch so interested in the Vice Presidency in 1980? Has he had a change of heart about his political ambitions or does he prefer to operate by proxy now?
First get your BA with a minor in econ like Ryan, then talk big like him.
Explain what Romney has been doing with his appx $800, 000/yr tax cuts, besides subsidizing his required marman tithe
Explain what mechanism allows Romney to pay a 14% tax rate.
Explain why, when in time of war, Romney gets to pay less tax rate than the average person, who fights or sends their children to fight? dejavu France?
Explain why the rich can't be more patriotic and aid their country, who enabled them to be rich, just the ones who support Romney. The ones who support Obama are fine.
