You do have Intel inside since AMD licenses Intel's x86 architecture for their CPU's. However, with respect to the comparison of W8 vs Linux, you are correct on most points. Unlike the Microsoft approach which attempts to force everyone into a tile-driven environment that looks like it was created as an elementary school project, Linux gives users complete flexibility and choice to chose what interface they like, and Linux doesn't push paid advertisements to its apps like Microsoft does without the user's knowledge.
W8 is all about what's good for Microsoft. Microsoft threw PC users under the bus.
It doesn't matter if AMD sold its fabs. The CPU's AMD sells use the Intel instruction set designed by Intel. It is well documented that Intel's CPU's outperform AMD's in both absolute performance and performance per Watt, so Lintel delivers the best overall performance. But one thing for sure, W8 is the best thing that ever happened to Linux.
