"The complaints led us to question interface experts, who universally panned the dual-natured design of Windows 8. The complaints came to a head when usability guru Jakob Nielsen published a scathing blog post deriding almost every aspect of Windows 8's design. His brutal examination was then re-blogged far and wide.
Nielsen blasted the flat, non-intuitive look and "low information density" of the modern UI. He derided the way Windows hides commands in off-screen menus, and its too-shifty live tiles. He ripped into overly similar gesture controls, and Microsoft's decision to display just a single Windows 8 app at a time. "The product ought to be renamed 'Microsoft Window,'" he quipped.
The dual desktop and modern UI in particular create cognitive problems for everyday users, Nielsen says. In his opinion, Microsoft made a big mistake in attempting to create a single operating for desktops and tablets alike, as the two have very different uses and form factors."
When W7 was introduced many people recommended the upgrade to their friends. Not W8. The consensus is to avoid W8 for desktops and laptops, maybe postpone one's laptop purchase until next year and hope MS returns the W7 desktop option to W8.
One Month Pass or Fail? Windows 8 didn't take that long to fail. There is good news for consumers though. There are plenty of other choices besides Windows 8 and Metro. How about MacBooks, iMacs, iPads, iPhones, Chromebooks, Android tablets, Android phones, hundreds of Linux versions, Windows 7 or even stick with XP? Windows 8 ain't the only game in town.

win 7 are sold out in several big box retailers that I've been too. People like myself, were waiting for win 8 before buying a new laptop but when it is crap, you want to go back to what works - win 7 and now I can't find any.... Plenty of win 8's, all u can eat sort of thing. I know msft is trying to limit win 7s now too so that might be another issue for supply, they really f'k up this whole thing. they hawk win 8 which retailers don't want and they keep win 7 limited which retailers do want.
A lot of people did exactly what you did. They waited for PC's to ship with W8 so there wouldn't be hardware compatibility problems but now that they've seen it they don't want it and most retailers have only W8 products to push. If one wants a desktop they could do a custom build if they need a laptop today they're in a world of hurt as the options are pretty limited for W7.
MS has a history of making the consumer pay the price of their mistakes.
oh hey sanddollars- are you living in an institution for the retarded or something. If so it explains why you are incapable of learning to use the Microsoft button on a keyboard to toggle back and forth between the W-7 desktop and the Mobile GUI on your W-8 machine. Cant you just have the attendants do it for you??
"Cant you just have the attendants do it for you??"
The attendants are busy picking and wiping the "yacht" fragments and smears from between your teeth and from behind your ears.
