That means if the thermometers being used were marked in one degreee increments the last significant digit is a tenth of a degree.
Centigrade thermometers are graduated in tenths of a degree. Which means the last significant digits are 1/100.
Fahrenheit thermometers marked off in one degree increments means the last significant digits are 1/10.
