    Dell - good partner

    If MSFT buys into DELL, they would be investing about 5% of their cash in return for a large influence on what DELL makes that will support a variety of MSFT products - that's a good investment in my opinion as it would ensure a big presence for MSFT on DELL products....
    DELL is still a great computer company with a great future, especially if they do everything correctly and execute on the next big thing with MSFT - ie mobile devices!

      why they have to buy influence over what dell offer?

      what happen with $600 mio given to barn and noble? no new msft product,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    • In a leveraged-buy-out, much of the cost of buying the company goes on the company balance sheet as new debt. The company largely buys itself.

      But Dell already has a debt-to-equity ratio of 88. The last thing a box-maker needs is a lot of debt.

      If there is a plan to reduce debt at a new IPO a few years from now, that would be interesting.

      But the idea of taking Dell private is a strategy of PC's rebounding a few years from now. And then there is a new IPO during the rebound.
