But I can't pay for any of the services since my mobile phone is only $100 a year and it's not likely that Skype is a better quality service than a mobile phone.
I would like to receive Skype calls without having to be logged in. I'd be willing to login for the purpose of the Skype system knowing my current IP address and then log-off. Or, for instance, do I lose my login when the computer goes to automatic sleep mode ?
But there could be one computer connected to the internet for Skype calls and for web browsing and then another computer for important files not connected to the internet. Anyway, it looks like about $100 a year for full service and that not counting the cost of the internet connection. I did see a USB ringer available.
Haven't had any problems with the last two releases as long as I have 32 bit library support.
Even when I only had 64 bit libraries it never crashed my system, it just puked and died. And unless they have changed it the "64 bit versions" aren't 64 bit code. They just leave it up to the distro to supply bridge support for the 32 bit binaries. "It's too hard!" is what they said in the support forums about providing 64 bit run times.
Have you tried Jitsi? There is a 2.0 level release recently posted.
