Why because 8.1 has the start button. The original version has the same context menu when you move you move to lower left of screen and right click. It opens the context menu with less shortcuts than 8.1. 8.1 has the shut down and a few others. You can add a shortcut to Windows 8 by creating a shortcut and entering this:
shutdown /s /t
That will turn the computer off when you click on the shortcut you create.
