BUT THE HEART of the governments antitrust suit remained intact. U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson signed the settlement in a brief hearing Thursday in federal court. Attorney Richard Urowsky said the agreement settles a dispute on the compliance a Dec 11 court order.
The order which required the company not to force computer makers to install Internet Explorer software as a condition of licensing the Windows 95 operating system.
But Urowsky said the order did not settle other issues in the overall antitrust dispute.
Details of the agreement were not immediately available. But Justice Department attorney Phillip Malone said he was satisfied with the settlement.
We believe this order will obtain all the relief the U.S. has sought, Malone said.
