Raven goes 'green' with state-of-the-art reuse system
Feb 22, 2013
Sioux Falls-based Raven Industries Inc. has installed a new production line to help its engineered films division reclaim and recycle excess polymer material.
The excess material is generated through the production process and had been transported to other reclaim facilities or was discarded.
With the new system, the majority of the material will be reclaimed, increasing efficiency and adding direct value to the process, according to Raven executives.
“The installation of this advanced system achieves a closed-loop recycling stream for our manufacturing facility by reclaiming excess production material through a fully controlled process from start to finish,” said Anthony Schmidt, the division’s vice president and general manager. “Additionally, the reclaim line achieves a critical step in implementing actions directly aligned with Raven Industries’ sustainability initiatives, by reducing product waste and municipal landfill consumption.”
The state-of-the-art system can produce up to 15 million pounds of reprocessed resin pellets annually.
The reclamation system is one piece of Raven’s larger sustainability program, which plans to announce other efforts later this year.
