Question re the Raven-Google internet baloon project: Has anyone seen even a hint of the IP or financial terms of this collaboration?
Opinion: If Raven is doing this because Google is paying them or they have a sound-projection business plan + MOU, then that is good. If they are doing this on their own nickel simply because thay know that press releases with names like Google, Buffet, Facebook, Gates, etc., get lots of visibility, then that puts them in bad company.
Yahoo cut out a post I entered which included an URL for "ArgusLeader100Eyes" program which aired yesterday I gather. Lon Stroschein was interviewed for 42 minutes about Aerostar and particularly the project with Google.
Several thoughts were new to me but I'm not up for reexplaining them. I did appreciate Lon's professional dress and manner. One surprise was that 4-7 balloons were up in this trial at a time so they do cover a much wider area than I calculated by assuming all 30 were needed all the time for the area described yesterday.
The high tech feature of Aerostar with mention of weather balloons, aerostats, immigration and Navy/Coast Guard interactions for surveillance, hot air ballooning, logging etc. Only marine navigation was missed and I guess that is still in ATD. I was interested to hear Lon describe the Vista technology as being low weight radar--certainly would mean a lot to lighter than air application.
I just typed the words in quotes into my search engine and came up with the interview.
