When a company sells stock, they raise funds to be used to further their business (expansion, inventory, special projects, etc). This is positive for them and for their employees. What is accomplished by short selling? What benefit is this to the US economy and to the individual companies involved? If there is no logical, positive benefit, then why is it allowed? I am sick and tired of the "cocaine cowboys" and all their derivitives, short selling, credit default swaps, and the rest. Am I misinformed? Is there some ETHICAL benefit from these activities? I seriously doubt it.
