Stafford Jones: Why you should vote for Mitt Romney, Barack Obama will kill our way of life.

We live in some of the most trying times our country has faced since the Carter administration.

We are stuck in an economic malaise that just won't quit. The unemployment rate was reported at an improved 7.8 percent last week, but, alas, this week, jobless claims are up by 46,000 to 388,000.

Those people who have jobs have far less buying power than they did. Real wages are down, and the net effect of fed pumping instead of real, long-term fixes, has been to erode the value of the dollar. Gas prices are maddeningly high, and the only thing worse than high gas prices are unstable and unpredictable gas prices.

Every now and again, we get a little dip in our energy costs, only to have the rug pulled out from under us a few weeks later.

Of course, it's convenient to blame this on the Republicans and the previous administration, but that isn't the reality of it. The roaring economy that we had was supported by wealth that people believed they had while the real estate bubble was pumping up their property values.

What caused the real estate bubble? Government intervention in the real estate market, and using Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to buy every mortgage that banks could make. When Bush's White House economic staff went before Congress in 2004 and pointed out that an economic train wreck was coming in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, they were accused of being hysterical
        about a non-existent problem.

    • Me and you - look - and other minorities somehow think that taxing the rich will make things better for them. But it absolutely won't......think about the following:

Taxing corporations to an excess is essentially just another expense for them. Extra expenses always -- but always -- get passed onto the customer. Take, just for example, banks. Banks, who are imposed extra taxes and regulations will be forced to raise fees on their customers. That means higher ATM fees, higher checking account fees, etc. And worst of all, these higher fees will hurt the poor people most! The rich won't be fazed by higher fees because they are rich! It's the poor and middle class who will feel the pinch.

And you can multiply this concept all, clothing, energy, gas, housing -- everything....raising taxes on businesses and corporations will not only raise prices everywhere, but it will also increase inflation, slow down the economy, cost people their jobs...on and on. The liberal "answer" to a sluggish economy will only make things worse.

In short, if Obama wins, the poor, as a group, is in trouble, as what little money they have will continue to buy less and less. We're seeing this now; the poor are getting poorer and increasing in

    • Obama Sees Middle Class Tax Increase as a Victory read this and vote for Obama if you like it.

–Obamacare law contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses–

The Largest Tax Hike in US History has just been upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States and President Obama sees this assault on the middle class as a victory.

The already unpopular 2010 health care reform law has been converted by the court into a $1.76 trillion tax increase funded by escalating taxes to be paid the vast majority of taxpayers. The high court’s ruling leaves in place 20 tax increases in the health-care law, of those, 12 tax hikes would affect families earning less than $250,000 per year, including a “Cadillac tax” on high-cost insurance plans, a tax on insurance providers, and an excise tax on medical device manufacturers. By formally converting ‘Obamacare’ into ‘Obamatax,’ the court allows Obama to raise taxes on the middle-class.

The decision is a distressing blow to taxpayers and represents the single largest tax increase on young people in the nation’s history. When it takes full effect, the Internal Revenue Service will have immense new power and authority to persecute and prosecute a whole new group of taxpayers.

If the law takes full effect, it will devastate small businesses and destroy any chance for a sustainable economic recovery. It will add trillions of dollars to the national debt and push the country toward bankruptcy even faster than current projections. Any individual who believes that
this decision must be overturned must do everything possible to undo the damage that has been done, especially at the ballot box on November 6.

    • Gee a republican paper endorsing Mitt see you can fool some of the people all of the time, they think he is a conservative. Now if Akron Beacon Journal backed Mitt that would be news worthy or say a Ohio newspaper who supported McCain in 2008 said Pres Obama sound leadership was the reason they were backing Pres Obama now that would be news worthy. Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2008 backed John McCain and now say Pres Obama should be re-elected based on his sound leadership.
