Jesus was a follower of the old testament.
The old Testament says, "If you don't work, you don't eat".
No where does it say for the haves to feed the do-less. Charity was bestowed on the elderly, the diseased and handicapped, In the old testament the do-less starved.
It is time for liberals to understand this. I explained this to welfare administrators 50 years ago when I was a welfare counselor. Needless to say, like I shot myself in the foot.
I believe Jesus based most of his teachings on the Buddha, who was making a big splash about 500 years before Jesus. In this case, though, being a copy-cat is good. Both the Buddha and Jesus had some great philosophies and teachings, including the one you just cited.
Jesus instructed his rich followers to "sell all you have and give to the poor." He was a socialist. His father, allah, was an old testament type of god that smited everyone just for the heck of it. To any true follower of Jesus, the old testament is irrelevant and barbaric.
