"minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would ELI MINATE about 500,000 jobs by 2016"

WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU LIBS NOT UNDERSTAND?

    • After this Obamacare disaster there will hardly be 500,000 jobs left to eliminate.

    • In a time of deficit spending and a massive national debt. All Obama's pens use nothing but red ink. Thanks to him, the taxpayers will be paying even more money to all those who get contracts from the government. Thanks Obama for raising taxes AGAIN on the middle class, what there is left of it after six years of you and your party of totalitarians.

    • The part I don't understand is where you took "could" and changed it to "would". You must be a Fox News reporter

    • That's from a government report. Surely you don't have faith in THAT!

      LOL!

    • We have been adding an average of about 175,000 jobs per month for the past couple of years. Let's assume that trend continues. This report estimates there could be an approximate loss of 500,000 jobs when compared to what might happen without a minimum wage increase. So by the end of 2016 we would be looking at adding 5,450,000 jobs instead of 5,950,000 jobs.

Doesn't seem so bad now, does it? Especially when you consider that 16 million people will be helped, and 900,000 people will be lifted out of poverty.

    • What is your point? Abolishment slavery after the Civil War almost instantly caused many millions of jobs to be eliminated in the US.

      • The "Land of Freedom" is fast fading. The gov't in the past 6 months has passed over 50,000 new rules, regulations and laws. This alone says the Land of Freedom is fading fast.. We should keep gov't out of the private sector except in the area of reasonable safety. .
Companies and unions should determine wages and benefits, not gov't. The idiot reps in gov't have no idea what any employer can afford to pay and stay in business. GAP I understand has raised their starting salary, great, but Gov't should not be telling GAP what to pay. MO.

    • Never has there been a loss of jobs due to an increase in the minimum wage. On paper it seems reasonable to assume a loss but in the real world does not respond like a classroom.
      From “ Back to School”
Dr. Phillip Barbay: ...now, not withstanding Mr. Mellon's input. The next question for us is where to build our factory?
      Thornton Melon: how 'bout fantasyland?

Thornton Melon: Oh, you left out a bunch of stuff.
Dr. Phillip Barbay: Oh really? Like what for instance?
Thornton Melon: First of all you're going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that'll cost ya. Oh and don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boyscouts.
Dr. Phillip Barbay: That will be quite enough, Mr. Melon! Maybe bribes, kickbacks and Mafia payoffs are how YOU do business! But they are NOT part of the legitimate business world! And they are certainly not part of anything I am doing in this class. Do I make myself clear, Mr. Melon!

There is the real world and then the classroom we live in the real world.

    • It'll eliminate a lot more than that as combined with everything else it would be the final straw to fire the inflation rocket. Everyone seems to miss Jimmy Carters rampant inflation and double digit interest rates. .

    • In their new workfree lifestyles, the newly unemployed will create great artworks, put in hours on charitable activities, and breed additional generations of welfare recipients.

      • As I heard a "nut" say, "These unemployed people will be able to start their own business since they are not tied to their job because of the health insurance".
What idiots. 99+% of those laid off were barely earning enough to survive much less have saved a bunch to start a new business.
Just look around your area and see how many little businesses have gone under because of rules, regulations, laws and MW. Most of these people had little nest eggs, but not enough to make a go of it. MO
