So my new long term investing plan is to buy shares/units into great companies/MLPs that have shown a long track record of shareholder friendly management, solid growth in sales/profits and dividends and have a durable competative advantage.
Right now I only have 3 such companies on my list.
1. SeaDrill (SDRL)
2. Calumet Specialty Products Partners, (CLMT) (specialty refiner of industrial lubricants and solvents)
3. Rentech Nitrogen Partners, (RNF) pure nitrogen fertilizer company that literally sits in the world's largest corn belt and who's customers buy their products at the front gate, saving a fortune on shipping and increasing margins.
I love that these are companies that sell necessary products, have competitive advantages over the competition and pay dividends of 10-11% (and sustainable yields at that)
Of course I'm always looking to diversify, (the way I invest is by putting together a well researched list of solid companies and then dollar cost averaging periodically into which ever company is yielding the most) and I'd really appreciate any suggestions that my fellow fools might have, in terms of other companies and or MLPs that they own or know about, that I could add to my list?
Check out NGLS, natural gas pipeline MLP that pays about a 7% divi.
Stock price got creamed last week with the down market combined with a large secondary offering.
On it's way back up today, great entry point.
Before you get too excited about RNF, go to Seeking Alpha and read this post AND the comments following it, about RNF's parent, RTK:
If you're looking for a long track record, how could you pick RNF which has only paid one distribution so far?
CLMT is a tiny niche player - not saying its bad, but surprising choice for a top 3.
SDRL is not an MLP and is quite risky and highly leveraged. Again, not saying it's a bad choice but do your research.
mildoc...SDRL (yield about 10.2%) is a great choice...I also like MLPL (yield about 11.8%) and SFL (yield about 9.7%) after the current correction for long term holdings...
AGNC (yield about 15.5%) and MTGE (yield about 15.4%) have both been very sweet to me and I suggest you take a look at them...! Good luck investing...! $tagg...!
