Would Vringo Settle Without Money for Past Infringement?

I can't see Vringo agreeing to a settlement without getting some money for past infringement.

The judge gave them exactly zero and I truly believe they can't wait to appeal this past of the trial -- no matter how much else they are awarded.

The question is would Google give Vringo any money for past infringement just to get this case over with?

Or could they agree to a settlement on everything else and then have Vringo appeal the past infringement (laches ruling by JJ)?

Anyone have an answer to this?

    Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • no google wouldn't Google give Vringo any money for past infringement. Heck they would even give them -- Google: $15,800,000. If Google won't even give Vringo $15M why would google give Vringo 3.5% or 7% or 35% whatever the number is. The way google looks at it is if they give Vringo a dime, every patent troll in the worldd will sue them for patent infringement.

      -- Google: $15,800,000

      -- AOL: $7,943,000

      -- IAC: $6,650,000

      -- Gannett: $4,322

      -- Target: $98,833

      • Google must really be infringing on a large number of patents if you think they are open to numerous lawsuits.

Maybe they really are the type of firm who uses other people's technology withoout paying for a license.

Isn't that who the system is designed to go after -- the dead beats who want to be free riders on to the system?

Sounds like you believe there will never be a settlement -- unless Vringo caves on the laches issue.

    • Absolutely!
