An interesting read is the new Pacer document out now whereby VRNG presses their claim for increased royalties. Especially illuminating is Exhibit A which is where the Patent Office explains why they are validating the Lang 420 patent. Considering Google made the pending invalidation of this patent a centerpiece of their appeal of the lower court ruling and it has now been validated I wonder what's left for Google to contest?
bigred, excellent callout. They have built themselves into corner as they assumed (like GOOG always does) that 420 would be invalid. What will they try next? Say they were just kidding or play on the work-a-round more. the plot thickens.
Yeah, GOOG is running out of credibility. What got me about the whole 420 thing was the patent office had Lang defending his patents, who of course was the original author. After Lang posted his defense, the patent office agreed point by point with what he had presented and validated the 420. Which brings up another point. Everyone is so intent on classifying VRNG as a patent troll when in reality the author of the patents VRNG is contesting with GOOG is actually a VRNG employee, who last time I checked was still in the business of cranking out IP via Va. Tech initiative and whatever is ongoing in Israel. That doesn't seem very trollish to me.
