Finally, JCP understands that you have to have "sales" or "coupons" or "deals" (see e-mail from Ron below). It doesn't matter what you call it, but you have to have incentives for people to shop. I plan on using my $10 "coupon" to buy something from JCP for $15 or less and spend only $5. NOW that is a "deal."
Ron Johnson, CEO
Dear valued customer,
With all the changes taking place in our stores, the question I hear
most often is: "What's your vision for jcpenney?"
Our goal is really pretty simple--we want to help you look and live
better every day, while bringing back the fun of shopping.
We believe you should be able to shop on your own schedule, and find
great prices every day on quality brands for your home and family. We
also believe you deserve terrific service, and that your spirits
should be lifted every time you visit.
To do that, we're making some big changes. We're turning jcpenney into
a collection of shops staffed by specialists who really know their
We've already built shops featuring Levi's®, Sephora®, Liz Claiborne®,
Arizona and Izod®. In the coming months, we'll be adding more,
including Joe Fresh®, Jonathan Adler and Michael Graves.
One of our core values is that you shouldn't have to wait for a sale
or a coupon to get great value. So you'll find low prices every day on
the brands you really love.
Just last month we unveiled a new line of clothes that we're so proud
of, we put our own name on it. The jcp(tm) brand--for men and women--offers
key essentials in vibrant colors, designed to mix perfectly with all
the other brands you wear.
I'd like to invite you in to your favorite jcpenney store to see the
changes firsthand. As an incentive, I'm enclosing a $10 gift. Think of
it as a thank-you from jcp for your loyalty through the years.
Last, I want to thank everyone once again for continuing to make our
jcp cares "round up to the nearest dollar" program so successful.
Combining your contributions with ours, we donated over $1.4 million
to our September partner, Teach For America. This month, funds raised
in this program will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research
As always, I look forward to hearing your comments about the new jcp.
Thank you for shopping with us.
He has lost the "old" customers, he doesn't want them! So why is he trying to lure them back into the stores with a $10 "gift", ha never heard a coupon called that before!!!! Hopefully the majority will reply to his "sweet" e-mail and tell him to keep his gift! Or just go into your nearest store and buy a pack of socks or something that costs only $10... I personally think customers would be silly to respond to his "gift",, #$%$,,, he is desperate for traffic in the stores and that is the bottom line.. Its a wonder he isn't giving the employees (what's left) a 50% discount on their purchases, seems like they are the only ones shopping!
This gift only applies to customers of JCP not any new customers and some existing customers. Looks to me it might be customers that gave them their email address.
I notice that the Lee jeans are in the men’s department not next to the Levis. RJ did mention that the Lee jeans are not selling well. This may be why Levis are doing better this year at the expense of the Lee jeans.
No coupons.......there is a coupon, they ar very desperate....
Is time to ralize the mistake of "low price on every item" dosn't work.
The wonder CEO had a dream that doesn't come true...he should
start to "remodel his mind" not the JCP...
Will see after the earnings...probably in the low 20
Buy more if you have $ to lose...
Sentiment: Strong Sell
The gf and I each got one through our respective email accounts.
RJ needs to do traditional sales promotion from now through the entire holiday shopping season to drive customer traffic into the stores.
RJ - keep dropping $10 off coupons in everyone's email every week and you will definately see an uptick in store traffic.
