Today I visited the Frisco Tx. store and would like to relate my observations.
1. Store pretty much in disarray as they work to remodel and add shops. But even with new construction the place looked worse than it could have. One of the old checkout desks was extremely messy with unsold products laying all around.
2. There were a lot of shoppers, much more then I expected.
3. Experienced I phone checkout. Did not seem to have any advantage over register checkout. In fact after inquiring with the checkout clerk he stated that it was slower than the old way, but getting better.
4 For a store with every day low pricing they seemed to have a lot of sales going on. Clearance mostly.
5 The staff looked pretty shabby. It looks like JCP went from low standards to no standards in appearance. Ratty jeans, sneakers, sweat pants, t-shirts, etc. Clerks looked worse than the customers.
6 While some of the merchandise looked pretty good it seems that the transformation has a long, long way to go.
I was on my way to Kohls, (Park City/Lancaster, PA), on Friday nite and just happened to walk thru JC Pennys. It was under construction but very crowded. I decided to see if they had what I was going to by at Kohls and they had and at a better price. Seemed to have more inventory and I was quite happy with the whole experience. I do not own JCP and normally don't invest in retail, but may just take a flyer after a little more research. I hope Penny's survives but the CEO has to go.
