And some associates decided to do restock or whatever and had all the tags and hangers all over the floor. One associate was applying lipstick and the other looked like she might take the entire shift just to do that merchandise. Some people wanted to have a look at that area but walked on.
The story of penny's..."walk on by"
The Portrait studio oddly had about 8 people in it. What's up with that?
Macy*s was also sorta slow so not sure what was going on.
Maybe everyone was on the lower level of Penny's for "unbelievable great bargains"
Then again...probably not.
It seems possible this thing will barely survive but retail is a funny beast....
Don't count JCP out, they have been here before..For long term investors JCP would/will reward them well. I will be watching an ultimately looking to buy...Anyone shorting JCP be prepared to get burned as it has the potential for big moves here, as hedge funds or big investors bet on it..
I was in a free standing store today in a large market. Traffic was good and registers were humming. Customer service was much improved over the last visit. The progress made in the store in the last 30 days was quite remarkable. Signing was sharp and much improved over the Johnson era. They are still working on clearing merchandise and they have started moving poor sellers in Martha and Bodum. Disney store fixtures have just arrived for the children's dept. There will probably be a Disney shop next week. Just in time for Christmas. Perfect Grandma bait. I feel much better about JCP's prospects today then I did 30 days ago. The next 4 months will give JCP the opportunity to clean up the MASSIVE Ron Johnson mistakes.
