    Singapore economy expands 6.9 % in 4Q

    Singapore GDP grew 6.9% in fourth-HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Singapore's economy returned to the growth path in the fourth-quarter, expanding at an annualized rate of 6.9% in the October-December period from the preceding quarter after shrinking 18.9% in the three months ended Sept. 30, official data showed on Monday. The growth was weaker than the 9.2% rate expected by economists in a Dow Jones Newswires survey. The southeast Asian country's gross domestic product increased 14.7% in 2010 after contracting 1.3% in 2009, thanks to a strong growth in manufacturing and an improvement in services, although the construction industry slowed down. GDP growth in 2011 is forecast between 4% and 6%
