I'm not sure about where everyone else lives, but we had Easter size crowds at my church yesterday. I think a lot of CEO's decided to add a third visit to church this year. Maybe this past week was not just a wake up call to the possibility of terrorism, but a spiritual wake up call as well.
PS - In case you didn't know, CEO is "Christmas and Easter Only".
I overheard two women talking together when one asked, 'How do you tell a 10 year old girl about evil?' So often, when we seek the truth, we also want to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Taking on the job of talking about evil yourself almost always implies that you better know everything about it, or you quickly look naive and helpless to the person who needs to know about evil. Let the church take over the job and powerful alliances can be formed in our personal holy war against evil. Ritual in the workplace can create carpal tunnel syndrome but in the church it's a kind of spiritual Secret Service.
Btw, Thomas Jefferson, the author of the concept of separation of Church and State, always attended prayer meetings when he was a Congressman and never forbade praying in public buildings when he was President. The 4th verse of the National Anthem is a tribute to the power of God. If this is going to be a protracted war, imo, we're going to see the church a lot more amenable to the government and vice versa. Amen to that!
