I just finished reading President Bush's speech at the UN. It was magnificent display of strong words backed by solid evidence. In short, George Bush, once again, is able to take control of a difficult situation and demostrate his strength of leadership.
He challenged the UN to take responsibility for their own [in]action.
"Are Security Council resolutions to be honored and enforced or cast aside without consequence?
Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding or will it be irrelevant? "
As Bush explained to the UN, Iraq has violated the sanctions imposed by the UN.
If the UN does not enforce their edicts, the body is totally useless. Holding hands and appeasing despots like Hussein will result in human carnage and further expansion of his already unwieldy power.
Bush's closing words are very moving and further demonstrate his solid grasp and understanding of the prolems.
"We must choose between a world of fear and a world of progress. We cannot stand by and do nothing while dangers gather. We must stand up for our security and for the permanent rights and the hopes of mankind.
By heritage and by choice, the United States of America will make that stand. And, delegates to the United Nations, you have the power to make that stand, as well."
George Bush is exactly the right man at exactly the right time. Thank you, President Bush, for helping protect America.
God Bless America
OK, it's going to be fun. We'll start bombing the hell out of Iraq, massing the armour on the boarder and shutting down the sea trade. Everything looks bad for the "Evil One". We're ready to go in and mop up when Iraq makes the following announcement: "Contrary to common belief, Iraq is pleased to announce that Allah has graced it with the gift of atomic weapons, and charged us to protect the sacred land from the Jews and Infidels. If any troops enter Iraq we will launch our weapons at the Zionists leaders who are behind this agression." What do we do then? What do the Israelies do? True or not, just the announcement will freeze everyone and bring Israel into any conflict. How will that play out?
Afghanistan is that there was no serious resistance in Afghanistan. I've been reading reports that the Iraqi military is weaker than in 1992. This is quite possible, but how much weaker? It is possible that the Iraqi military will be more motivated to fight than we think.
I would wait at least six months to a year to see whether the "regime change" in Afghanistan "takes" before declaring victory on that front.
That doesn't change what I'll do. But at least he's not as stupid investing as he is discussing his geopolitical views.....
Really got to go and shut down or you guys will get me posting far to long....
It's been interesting tho
i play silver lake this saturday. it s a very short and narrow course and i went to the range tonight, took only my three, and practiced nothing but that low straight whistler. i want to get to that place where i can hit it 200 on 3/4 swing, straight and low every damn time.
ive still got a lot of work to do...
as the primary tool of achieving our objectives in Iraq can reduce US casualties substantially, but I have to question how can a regime change be brought about without capturing or killing Saddam Hussein. It looks like a fairly substantial ground presence would be needed for that, possibly for months or years.
"of winning the grand prize in the Powerball than you do of voting in an election in which your vote makes a difference."
I recognized that long ago. I have voted but once and only on the urging of one very dear friend, who by the way, virtually never asks me for much of anything. So I voted once.
Tom Hanks, once said and di so long after i had thought the same, "When there's a tie...
Guess that element now too has become meaningless, since when an election is that close.....the voting ends and the counting and recounting begins.
Anyway.....I have other things to do before turning in.
May terrorism reap it's own seeds.
Trying to save some from their blind love of Bezos is generally a thankless task.
I appreciate your welcome.
Shorts have this one completely right in the near term.
And Amazon is a long long LONG way from proving it's survivabilty.
I'm sleeping in but will be posting in the AM.
