Because MM want it so. This is planned even before the ER is released. MM scares long investors by driving the price lower before the release then push the price up right after hour to create short squeeze. I don't think the short squeeze is over yet; We might see the price reached to $330 in a short time as long as the market continues the mad bull trend.
AMZN is one of the highly manipulated stock(Besides NFLX) by MM in the market. Its movement cannot be justified rationally so just don't play against the trend and try to outsmart MM. You will get burnt easily.
If you really hate Amazon, try to support your local store like Best Buy(although it also sucks in other way), at least local store give you first hand experience and provide employment in your area. We all know what will happen if Amazon squeeze every possible competitors out of the market.
Here's why. The table was full of gambling money. Lots of options. Everybody was saying down down down. Every SA article was slanted down. Everyone said DOWN ! So what does Wall Street do? They take her up uP UP, and clear all the money on puts.. Tomorrow, the disbelievers will still be shorting when it opens, and buying puts cuz "this makes no sense, must be a mistake.". But, alas, Wall Street will take that money, too. Soon, though, after everyone sighs, and goes long and buys calls, Wall Street will take her on down on some foolish news that has no bearing.. Maybe even Einhorn or some knucklehead will say it is too high. Anyway, for now it is up, as they steal the PUT money..
Amzn does not play on same level as other retailers. It has closed a lot of retail shops and bookstores on main street. Not good for economy, the state or employment in long run. Just good for fat cat pumping market manipulators.
i remember the same thing being said back in the 1990s when walmart was taking over.
once they pushed the little shops out of business, walmart could raise prices and improve margins.
AMZN is no different.
it is just making the distribution chain of goods more efficient and affordable.
how is this bad for the economy?
