OT--Drillers will take advantage of disappearing ice in the Arctic

The extent of Arctic sea ice reached a record low Monday, according to the University of Colorado National Snow and Ice Data Center, and is on track to decline further in the next two weeks.
The news that the Arctic sea ice cover had shrunk to 1.58 million square miles on Sunday came two days after Royal Dutch Shell’s drill ship, the Noble Discoverer, took advantage of reduced sea ice and started sailing from Alaska’s Dutch Harbor to the Chukchi Sea, in anticipation of final federal approval for oil exploration activities there.
Including this year, the six lowest ice extents in the satellite record have occurred in the last six years (2007 to 2012). Arctic sea ice extent for Aug. 26, 2012 was1.58 million square miles, which was 27,000 square miles below the September 18, 2007 minimum sea-ice record of 1.61 million square miles.
The area covered by Arctic summer sea ice usually reaches its low point around Sept. 13, when the region begins to cool. But it has been melting at an unprecedented 38,600 square miles per day, and it is likely to decline even further before the ice begins to re-form.

A very odd thing is happening in the Antarctic (the location of most of the global ice).
The ice is increasing. They (the polar caps) have been doing this dance for eons.

      • Digging into Antarctic climate history
        23 August 2012
Research into Antarctic climate history has revealed the unusual nature of the recent rapid warming in the Antarctic Peninsula, according to an academic from The Australian National University.
Dr Nerilie Abram, from the Research School of Earth Sciences in the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, was part of an international research team that drilled into the ice on James Ross Island and extracted the first comprehensive temperature record for the Antarctic Peninsula. Details of the temperature findings spanning from present day back 15,000 years have been published in Nature.
“The Antarctic Peninsula is one of the fastest warming places on Earth at the moment, and this new ice core lets us for the first time see how recent warming compares with past temperatures,” said Dr Abram.
“In particular, the last century of warming has been unusually rapid with the mean temperature increasing by about one and a half degrees – one of the fastest temperature increases seen in the ice core record.”
Dr Robert Mulvaney from the British Antarctic Survey, who led the expedition to drill the 364 metre long ice core, said: “The exceptionally fast warming over the last 100 years came on top of a slower natural climate warming that began around 600 years ago – well before the industrial revolution – so it is possible that we are now seeing the combination of natural and man-made warming in this area.”
Dr Abram said that the new research shows a very close link between past temperatures and the stability of ice shelves on the Antarctic Peninsula.
“The centuries of ongoing warming have meant that the marginal ice shelves on the northern Peninsula were poised for the succession of collapses that we have witnessed over the last two decades,” she said.
“If this rapid warming that we are now seeing continues, we can expect that ice shelves further south along the Antarctic Peninsula that have been stable for thousands of years will also become vulnerable to collapse.
“This new ice core record of Earth’s past climate puts into perspective how unusual the recent warming of the Antarctic Peninsula has been and why we should be concerned about the impact that continued warming will have on the Antarctic ice sheets.”

Despite all our past deceptions now we demand you believe the ice cap is shrinking and without any scientific proof accept it is manmade. But the real farce is all these Progressives demand would make zero difference in their messianic blind beliefs that GW is the end of the world.
This behavior certainly does not qualify under the tenants of Freedom of Speech which carries with it the duty to be intellectually honest and rational to discover workable and practical solutions.
This is simply the irrationality of Freedom of Expression. We can be irrational wrecks demanding irrational policy because in the end analysis this is how we ‘feel’. Wind mills ,solar panels and ethanol corruption offer no solutions and have already done significant damage to American opportunity, well being and therefore diminished our ability to find or discover our happiness as a people built from Created individuals.

"The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimates that the polar bear population is currently at 20,000 to 25,000 bears, up from as low #$%$000-10,000 bears in the 1950s and 1960s. A 2002 U.S. Geological Survey of wildlife in the Arctic Refuge Coastal Plain noted that the polar bear populations 'may now be near historic highs,'" it read.

      J. Scott Armstrong of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Kesten C. Green of Business and Economic Forecasting, Monash University; and Willie Soon of Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge, published their findings in 2008, arguing that the claims of declining population among polar bears are not based on scientific forecasting principles.

      • AS Mitt said last nught. If you have been successful, let people know. Don't let others create deception about your success. But yet norris beats others down about being successful and talking about their success.

Mitt says let people know you are a succesful american. You can't take that away from myself, Mitt or others norris. No matter how hard you try to beat others down with your true american babbling. Mitt says stand up about your success's. Success is what america is all about. Right from Mitts lips to your ears. If you actualy listened to his speech last night.

So all your preaching needs to be redirected right back at you. Do as you say and work on this during your life. Others will respect you for this alot better.

Why did you change your name. You never answered that question? You can be humbled just like the rest of us. It is OK to stand up and tell the board.

      • How come you changed your name? I got a warning from yahoo thanks to sand for NO reason. Guess you got cut off. You are still lecturing others and saying the same thing. Some people never ever learn. Guess you are wanting a new name again.

      • We have a survey from 2002 and 2008. They are up to date? not. Get into the future dad,

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Republicans have strengthened the pro-gun-rights portion of their party platform, including a new call for unlimited bullet capacities in guns, in a defiant response to criticism that followed recent mass shootings at a Colorado cinema and an Arizona congresswoman's gathering

This is great our country is already the worse in gun shootings in the world. Now they can have unlimited bullet capacities for guns. Excellent idea.....................

    • Six yrs means nothing unless of course you want to believe in global warming being caused by man. What will happen the next 50 yrs should be studied and estimated.....of course, somewhere between this winter and a yr or so, we will be told the ice footprint is advancing.....the good thing about it is that the oil up thee can be extracted and used....a blessing in my view! Gas is now $4+ per gal......btw, your daily loss nbrs are somewhat whacky....-38600 sq miles per day is -14,089000 sq miles per yr.....
