I just listened to the President give his first speech about working together to solve the fiscal crisis. As usual it was more of the same tactics he has used in the past. To wit: give me what I want and then we will talk about what you want later without any guarantees on my part to give you what you want.
Again he wants congress to extend the Bush tax cuts for the middle class in a unilateral fashion but not the tax cuts for those above $250K. If congress goes along with what Obama wants, congress gives up the only lever it has to make the Democrats cut spending and reform entitlements.
This is a non starter. You don't discard your only trump card without any guarantee that the other side will give back something of equal value in the deal.
Nothing has changed. He thinks that he has a mandate to continue fighting against the conservatives to get only what he wants. Sorry Mr. Obummer, "It's still about the economy, and we're not stupid"
If he doesn't want to deal with the other side of the isle in a fair and balanced way, I say congress should let us fall over the cliff, just to show how pig headed and tyrannical this man is.
The latest issue of Time magazine has a picture of O'bummer dressed up in costume. It depicts him in the uniform one of the biggest tyrants the world has ever known; Napoleon Bonaparte. The media is starting to show him for what he really is.
". . . one of the biggest tyrants the world has ever known; Napoleon Bonaparte."
Wow, do you have some stupendous gaps in your historical knowledge. (And, by the way, Obama won the presidential election. You may have missed the import of that.)
Also, wouldn't it be nice if the GOP would actually state the loopholes they'd like to terminate and the spending cuts that, if made, would have a significant effect on deficit reduction. Here are some hints: No more interest deduction on home mortgages. A much higher cutoff for cessation of Social Security deductions. No farm subsidies for large corporate entities. Impeachment of any president who unilaterally violates the Constitution by going to war because he thinks it's a nice idea or fakes it being a nice idea. (Wars are monstrously expensive, you know.) Cease making defense budgets and self-serving generals sacrosanct. (Fat chance.) Stop corporate welfare, which, sad to say, means higher taxes for oil nd gas companies among others. And there's more that the GOP will never specify. (And that likely goes for the Democrats, too, politicians being what they are.)
Ultimately, however, a plunge off the fiscal cliff is inevitable when a house of Congress is dominated by a coalition which takes pride in being intractably
uncompromising and ignores that compromise is both the essence of democracy and the very taproot of the U.S. Constitution.
From Wikipedia: "In common usage, the word "tyrant" carries connotations of a harsh and cruel ruler who places his or her own interests or the interests of an oligarchy over the best interests of the general population, which the tyrant governs or controls"
TYRANT...Exactly what O'bummer is. Forcing upon the citizens of our country a health care reform that more than 60% of the electorate were against. And that's just for starters. I would say he qualifies as a Tyrant.
"Wow, do you have some stupendous gaps in your historical knowledge." WOW! Rom^3
Ron seems to be having a delusion that a President is not one of three co-equal branches of government. That Obama only got 50% of a relatively depressed vote.
Those powers not specifically given our federal government are reserved to the states or directly with the people.
Progressive do believe in their form of monarchy, I guess.
Is that the point of the out pouring of mindless prattle? Obama is out king now we should all follow like unworthy servants?
The passages of the Bible which were used to support the divine rights of kings and slavery are now stunningly used to justify accepting Obama's wildly and often exceeding the authority of his office.
This is not the American Reformation which led to the Revolution and not the Great Awakening which led to a willingness to fight the civil war and end slavery. Pastors should know better.
