My financial affairs are relatively simple - don't itemize even, but I do own several MLPs and LINE which is an LLC. Looking at the description of TT Premier it says" If you own an S Corp, partnership, C Corp, or multiple-owner LLC, choose TurboTax Business." Now its not clear to me whether that includes LINE which obviously has multiple owners, or are they referring to non-publicly-traded" LLCs. Not surprisingly, I want to buy the cheapest version that will do the job.
The MLP related code is essentially the same in all versions. Basic will handle MLPs perfectly well.
The problem with basic is that it doesn't include a state return. If you're in a no income tax state, then go with basic. If, like me, you are in a state tax state then easiest to go with Deluxe just to get the State return included. No need to go any higher than Deluxe. Turbotax business is not needed for MLPs, I think that's more for small business owners.
It may have changed but I use business. It keeps a full historical record of the partnerships and does calculate adjusted basis in case of sale. If memory serves the next lower cost software can report partnership income but does not keep all the information an investor would wish and really need.
If things have change and some one successfully uses something less than Business I hope they will post.
