Life expectancy in northern China was 5.5 years shorter than in southern China in the 1990s, and a health risk disparity lingers today, a difference almost entirely due to heart and lung disease related to air pollution from the burning of coal, a new study shows.
The findings come at a time when coal is on track to surpass oil as the world's top energy source.
For 30 years, from 1950 to 1980, the Chinese government provided free coal for home and office winter heating systems for anyone living north of the Huai River and Qinling Mountain range. Coal is still subsidized in the North.
The study assumes that home heating systems are the source of the particulate pollution. Northern China also is home to most of the nation's coal-burning power plants, and that could also be contributing to the health burden.
Since there are 500 million residents of Northern China, that means air pollution is associated with the loss of more than 2.5 billion life years of life expectancy, the study says.
This argument is pointless. Solar power is following the same path as computer tech, getting better and cheaper at a very rapid pace. Its not there yet, but it won't be long (5-10 years) until it will be CHEAPER to install solar on every building than to build a new power plant. Combine that lower cost electrolysis with improving local fuel cell storage systems, and the whole grid as we know it will be replaced. Its already started, and is simply a matter of time and incremental improvements.

Man-made Global Warming is a HOAX!
On balance the world has cooled in this period

The last decade in the US was the warmest on record. 2012 was warmer than any year that records have been kept going back to 1895. According to NOAA scientists, the globally averaged temperature for 2012 marked the 10th warmest year since record keeping began in 1880. It also marked the 36th consecutive year with a global temperature above the 20th century average. The last below-average annual temperature was 1976. Including 2012, all 12 years to date in the 21st century (2001–2012) rank among the 14 warmest in the 133-year period of record. Only one year during the 20th century―1998―was warmer than 2012.
Despite those statistics from rjmcbear, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have declared that Global Warming is a hoax. Since Norris has backed them up, I guess we'll just have to ignore the overwhelming majority of the Word's scientists. I think most of us will live long enough to see who is right.
No it is not. If what you say were true no government action would be necessary.
Truth is the existing solar technology has no reasonable possibility of being remotely viable to American natural gas or coal. Solar does not displace oil.
Just use our natural gas. You have no reasonable or rational argument for solar.
If you believe what you say then invest. But do not include the rest of us in your schemes of government force built on myth creation.
I think man made global warming is a hoax and has turned into a false religion. The religion if GW has its clergy, true believers, fair weather members and those out for the big buck , just like main line religions. Man can have a slight effect on climate change but can't control it. But on a local scale man can work to improve local/regional air and water quality. China , India and the third world developing countries are a environmental mess. Putting a gigantic tax structure in place in the US will not change weather or climate but it will further damage our economy. Put on a Carbon Tax, a value added tax to go with Obama Care and we are Greece.
Yes gene that is what happens when you Progressive attempt to force developing countries into economically nonviable alternatives.
When America does not encourage co2 recycling as it completes with Progressive Political and crony capitalism of corn ethanol.
When Progressive try to impose battery cars which were never viable when we have a surfeit of very clean natural gas.
the Chinese did end food to ethanol insanity.
Ever hear of the Koch brothers and how much they have invested in the coal mining industry and how
much influence they wieild in congress. Coal is a major health problem right here in America and we
need to address this problem but as usual money talks and BS walks.
Let's see we have climate scientists who have dedicated most of their lives to studying climate change and 97% agree that humans are causing global warming. We have satellite imagery showing the Polar ice caps melting, the ocean temperatures rising and Carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere increasing. Yet you want us to ignore the professionals and their warnings and instead believe politicians who are heavily funded by fossil fuel interests and who also say dinosaurs are a hoax and never existed.
