So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

"reason wants to keep God's law but cannot because it has been conquered and is ruled by emotion and desire. "

America's Great Awakening was really a Freedom of Conscious Reformation across theologies. Colonial elites did not seek revolution and none foresaw their purpose to birth a government instituted by people to secure God's Gifts/Grant of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness.

Of course to Progressives as collectivists this is all negative. As would be self appointed elites they do not believe in the Gifts of God or the talents of a free people to animate improvements and efficiency which drive economic liberty and material improvement in the human condition. In their arrogance they assume they could do better against all human experience and our shared history as people.

We are not the French cromags of Progressives' 'Enlightenment' and given their history and current general behavior, thankfully so.

Take it from a French collectivists who still had the power to wonder, Alexis de Tocqueville

In France I had almost always seen the spirit of religion and the spirit of freedom marching in opposite directions. But in America I found they were intimately united and that they reigned in common over the same country...... They brought with them...a form of Christianity, which I cannot better describe, than by styling it a democratic and republican religion...

The sects that exist in the United States are innumerable. They all differ in respect to the worship which is due to the Creator; but they all agree in respect to the duties which are due from man to man. Each sect adores the Deity in its own peculiar manner, but all sects preach the same moral law in the name of God...

Alexis as insightful and wondering as he was did not realize we did not bring this Christianity here with us. It rwas born in our first Great Awakening. It defies adequate explanation; like our Revolution and impossible success, by even honest people who still wonder.

    • Sadly it appears that this person has gone off the deep end. He has posted some very thoughtful info re: LINN but this is so far OT as to be ridiculous. I suggest you follow my example Click ignore. GLL

    • Wow six negative votes against the observations of Alexis the man who coined American Exceptionalism.

A surprise? Emotions run high so voting can replace an informed discussion within the frame work of Free Speech?

    • Took the words right out of my mouth.

    • It is late and you have had too much ethanol.

    • Thank goodness instead for The Enlightenment which renewed interests in education, science and literature. This era challenged the role of religion and divine right which had enslaved Europe for centuries.
People were actually encouraged to think for themselves instead of mindlessly prostrating themselves before self appointed theologians or heads of government.

It also led to creation of different sects and denominations, and advocated religious tolerance.
Oh, and what could be more elitist than the centuries of telling everyone that if they do not believe in certain dogma that they were unworthy of consideration both here and in the afterlife.
Please spare us your pious, elitist judgements. Mankind has suffered enough from pronouncements of your sort.

      • YOu show a remarkable level of ignorance and you to demand share.

Now why was it Northern Europe which lead in technology and innovation? Ideals of Free Speech and common law?

It is amusing too that you would claim it is a belief in leadership as service would be elitist!

I am sure you have not read Washington's Farewell Address but your behavior right here and right now disqualifies you to be our Framers and Founders American Patriot.

Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice ? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who that is a sincere friend to it can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?

Promote then, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge. In proportion as the structure of a government gives force to public opinion, it is essential that public opinion should be enlightened.
        You have a rational thought?

    • The free loading Corn Monsters have always been with us. But they have never before managed to have deception, dissembling and obfuscation generally accepted as unchangeable Free Speech 'right' before. Nor has it been generally accepted that an 'American' could ally themselves with a foreign interest let alone a clearly hostile entity.

We are not having a culture war. We are having a struggle over basic philosophy.

Our traditional values guiding an imperfect people striving to always be better.

Verses what came before the American birth of Individual Liberty or self agency.

Rule by an elite for monkey people have no logical reason to be Justly civilized. The absurd idea of a social contract maintained by a people who believe personal virtue is a silly anachronism.

What does this have to do with LINE? How about the wanton delusion or worse of Allan of Barron's screaming fire at the very individual investors who buy subscriptions and pay his salary. How about an SEC which investigates LINE but not the wild trading of LINE?

Americans are never going to be perfect as that is impossible of imperfect man.

But it is completely irrational, insane and delusional to think going back to the Dark Ages before the Birth of Individual Liberty will produce different result. Progressive assume they can control human nature and harness it to their vision. Their greater good is now called social justice.

That is just the Babel replay again and again and again.

It matters and most Americans have no idea what the conflict of philosophy is.

LINE is a target because it is a nasty American viable energy company. So it is fine if flat earth Tweetie McHedgy launches a raid at the cost of individual Americans. MLP tax structure too. The sin of it you all deserve it.

Why doesn't the Obama SEC launch an investigation into LINEs trading patterns. If they find nothing in LINEs accounting? Yea it all matters a great deal.
