Linn Energy Buying Big in Barnett Shale (per UNI Royalties)

Per the UNI Royalties website (copied and pasted)

"Linn Energy is buying big in the Barnett Shale, which is bullish for those selling oil and natural gas royalties, mineral rights, and leases. Based in Houston, Linn Energy knows the Texas oil and natural gas landscape well. That it is buying in the Barnett Shale Formation, which is also in Texas, shows that it is optimistic about the future of the oil and natural gas play."

Often land brokers out in the field are the first to discover when companies start building new acreage positions. I've seen comments that Linn's latest efforts to sell high decline production and upside for stable production will limit their future growth opportunities. It's exciting to hear that Linn may be picking up leases in new growth areas, rather than pay hefty prices for bulked up positions that are auctioned publicly. Also, this is further evidence of a bullish long-term gas view by Linn.

    • Regarding the alleged purchase of Barnett acreage by Linn...well, it is interesting. Both EVEP and ARP have nice holdings in the Barnett. It's very much a mature shale play with plenty of infrastructure and a favorable drilling environment. We will see more and more mature shale assets being absorbed by the MLPs. The Fayetteville and Haynesville are likely other potential candidates in the future.

ARP has been having quite a bit of success with the Marble Falls producing plenty of oil and liquids as well as gas. ARP is producing from multiple zones (vertical wells).

    • given the well decline in the barnett I don't see this happening. they are selling properties like this
