As Zan has pointed out- Higher highs and higher lows.
1) Fewer people are talking buy-and-hold now, but I think that in a few years we'll be hearing about mutual funds that outperformed by keeping their transaction costs down and minimizing the tax burden.
2) With regard to this stock, every share that a buy-and-holder purchases is effectively retired for a while. That will help to at least set the higher lows (unless the Specialist ventures into "naked shorting").
