Aug. 15, 2003--Ceradyne, Inc. (Nasdaq:CRDN - News) announced today that it has been awarded a new order for approximately $4.3 million of small arms protective inserts (SAPI) by the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia for the U.S. Army. Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2003. Joel Moskowitz, Ceradyne chief executive officer, commented: "In recent months, Ceradyne developed certain volume production technology which has resulted in an increase in capacity to produce ceramic armor systems in our proprietary hot pressing facility in Costa Mesa. The Company expects that it can now manufacture between 20% to 40% greater volume than earlier this year, which allows us to not only meet this new requirement but also future potential armor orders."
