Now, Second Chance says there are problems with the soft body armor. The problem lies in the stitching in the vests. "And it's in the way that it was stitched that has caused the underlying material to fail," said Chief Pierce.
Even with the council's action to buy new vests, Chief Pierce says it could be several weeks before they arrive. "Really for me, it's just this simple, These might not work," said Chief Pierce. "And, when we send the officers out, they need to know 100% for sure that this vest will stop a bullet."
The city council wants Second Chance to pay back Boise for all the defective vests. To replace them won't be cheap. Each vest costs about 700 dollars. The total expense to would be between $73-thousand and $101,500 to replace them all.
