General Motors Company Message Board

McCarthy's witch hunt is back on this board

Getting tired of people accusing Obama of being a communist because of the GM bailout, that the US is already a socialist country, people calling General Motors Govenment Motors over and over. Why you don't look at the financial sector where banks or brokers are screwing you every day.The government allows banks to borrow unlimited amounts from the Federal Reserve at 0% and then loan it back to the Fed at a much higher rate in the form of Treasury purchases. America is corrupt but you're not talking about this, you're opening your big mouths only to talk about how communist or socialist it was to bailout GM. General Motors is one of the greatest companies ever founded in America. The bailout adhered to the rules of capitalism, when a company is insolvent, it goes into reorganization or dissolution. That's all. Stop talking about communism and socialism as it's evident you know nothing about it.

      THAT IS NOT CORRECT.

Normally in a reorganization bankruptcy, the creditors are paid in order, and most of the time, the shareholders are wiped out. After that, the bondholders generally own all equity in the new corporation. This is what they deserved to have happen and I'm sure this is what they expected.

Instead, the bondholders were screwed out of ownership of 100% of GM. The govt declared a huge ownership stake and froze out the bondholders to a large extent.

All of this is readily verifiable, so I see no need to post a link. If you don't realize it yet, you're not alone but you certainly have not been paying attention very well.

PS By the way, I thought we were told it was a loan, not a bailout. Does that mean we won't be paid back every penny, with interest (as we were also promised by that socialist stooge in the White House)?

    • If you don't stop your silliness I will eat your flesh and I can assure that you will claim for mercy

    • <<<<Getting tired of people accusing Obama of being a communist because of the GM bailout>>>>

Me too. How ignorant of those people. He was a staunch union-loving communist long before ever doing the bailout. Sheesh.

    • Agree 100% ... great post ... and you got the typical responses from teasies ... always use lies and red-herrings to divert attention and confuse issues ... a few of their whoppers:

      "government takeover of health care"
      "cut and grow" (GDP=C+I+G)
      "show your birth certificate"
      "Obama is a muslim"

... etc. ... and they ran on "where are the jobs" and delivered "culture war" issues, cuts on the backs of the poor and middle class, and union-busting ....

    • Very good and right on. Yes the Banks are doing it again.Pushing the American consumer into more foreclosures. Restore Glass Steagall before its to late.
