We were up to our eyebrows in debt long before Obama. He has just stepped
      on the accelerator a bit.

    • Military waste is atrocious, but minimal to the total waste of all the other programs. At least 'defense' is in the constitution, the following are not: Earmarks, ethanol, EPA, foreign aid, CZARS, education, commerce, etc etc and etc.

    • China holds $798.9 billion in American debt. Japan holds $746.5 billion in
U.S. debt. The U.K. holds $230.7 billion of the U.S. debt. Brazil holds
$156.2 billion in U.S. debt. Hong Kong has $142.0 billion of the American
debt. Russia has $122.5 billion of American debt. Luxemburg holds $90.8
billion of the American debt. Taiwan has $78.7 billion of America's debt.
Switzerland owns $71.5 billion of America's debt. Germany holds $52.8
      billion in American debt.

South Korea has $42.2 billion of the U.S. debt. Canada has $40.8 billion in
American debt. Ireland has $38.3 billion in U.S. debt. France has $36.2
billion in U.S. debt. Singapore has $35.2 billion of the U.S. debt. India
owns $32.9 billion of the American debt. Turkey owns $30.4 billion of the
U.S. debt. Thailand holds $30.1 billion in U.S. debt. Norway holds $24.9

    • <<<<The military industrial complex is a mostly dead weight on American taxpayers.>>>>

I thought you GM Moron Longs told us GM was critical to our defense and that was one of the reasons we could not afford to let it fail!? So now you admit GM was dead weight all along?

      -web

    • "The military industrial complex is a mostly dead weight on American taxpayers. Do we need seven aircraft carrier groups each spending $10 billion a year? For what?"
      ------------------------------------

Yeah, for what! The government has enough to do babysitting flakes and
screw-ups. Why buy fire insurance? Why have a savings? Why not just party
      24/7?

Why have a defense when the good guys are Castro, Che and Obama, Pelosi and
      Reid?

      We have eleven battle groups.

    • That's not so bad. That just amounts to 5 trillion dollars a year, 3 years is just an additional 15 trillion dollars.
I wonder when China will foreclose?
Unless a miracle happens the U. S. can not repay this debt.

    • Absolute debt is not that important. Debt as a percentage of GDP is. That percentage needs to come down. Right now it is not a a critical point (see Greece) but the trend is going the wrong way.

      Cut expenditures (including defense)and entitlements.

Raise taxes in some way to raise income.

      • How stupid the voters are. Any time the gov't needs money,it means raise the taxes. OK. But have you noticed the psychology gov't uses to get you to vote for tax increases?
Gov't yells, we must reduce, defense, police or firemen. These are the things the community needs. The big boys will not fire the useless big boys that are a waste, friends.
Example: Education-lay off class room teachers, but none from the Board office or any school administrator. Polie-lay off patrolmen, but no useless office people, and ete etc and etc.
Another tool for raising taxes is a special election to raise teacher, police, firemen and libraries. Have you ever noticed the only people that vote in these elections are teachers, firemen, police and librarians.

        We are idiots.

      • you sound reasonable.
would you consider cuts on the dept of education. and dept of energy>
gas out of control. usage is down and prices are up.
and the dept of education.. turn it to the states.
