    ethanol??

Ethanol disolves all plastic compenants in small engines, like the tube from the gas tank to the carb and any plastic inside it. I don't know what it does to old vehicles or your new one.
Ethanol has probably cost the people a whole lot more than it has saved.

    • But this is all great hindsight. When the idea of ethanol began everything looked so promising. We had the potential to create a fuel that eliminated some of the foreign oil. The problems were not found out until the program was well under way. We now know the ethanol carbon footprint is not any better than gasoline and corn prices have skyrocketed. The drought is not helping.

I do believe the ethanol program should be shut down. It serves no purpose anymore.

We have to eliminate coal as soon as possible...by far the dirtiest fuel around.

Ethanol has a substantial constituency that shows up to vote. It doesn't appear
that it will be reduced even with nine dollar corn.

Thanks to eight or nine decades of the liberals making the decisions, we are too
poor to shut down the use of coal. Uranium/thorium would have been an excellent
substitute, but it's too scary. Unless you want to do without air conditioning.

    • If the gov't wasn't controlled by the liberal "STOP DRILLING FOR OIL, SHUT DOWN ALL COAL FIRED ELECTRICAL PLANTS" CRAZIES out there, there would be no need for Ethanol and gas would be under 3 bucks a gallon. The reid/pelosi/obama crowd are the real lock and chain holders....

Exactly right. And Murray and Cantwell. What are Edmonds homes selling for
        these days?

Saved! What? Ethanol was uneconomic when corn was priced at two bucks a bushel.
Ethanol is welfare payments to corn farmers. That's it. It was stupid at two
bucks a bushel and it's just plain insane at nine bucks a bushel. Brazilian
ethanol MIGHT be marginally economic, at best. It more than likely isn't at
today's crop prices. For all the bull crap humanitarian talk that goes around,
ethanol is a very serious attack on the world's poor.

      • Yep. The purpose of Ethanol was to react to public sentiment about pollution control, and create yet another subsidy for Big Agriculture, and to also create another speculation market.

The same thing will apply to "carbon credits". We're going to implement those here, despite their clear example of failure in Europe, and we're going to set a new record in public cost. Since we use a lot of coal to power up the electric grid, our disastrous foray into carbon credits will easily double the rates or bills of residential electric service within 4 years of implementation. What's unknown are when they will be implemented, and how exactly their charges will appear on residential bills.

    • Ethanol is the most stupid idea I have ever heard. US govt heard that Brazil is so successful in having Biofuel that they want to follow. Instead of using discarded sugar cane waste, we are using our food supply corn. How stupid can we get! This is our govt policy. No wonder we are getting bankrupt.

      • You need to watch and listen to the 'Stossel' show. He had a recent program on the unintended consequences of laws.
Most idiot legislators jump on most any law looking at just the intent of the law and never look at the unintended consequences.
You can pick almost any law and the intent is good but when you look at the unintended consequences the laws are idiotic.
Look at: ethanol, cash for clunkers, minimum wage, credit card, and on and on and on. The problems these laws cause are monumental to the intent.
We the voters must wake up.
